Duncan and Bo Go To Westworld – “The Adversary” and “Trompe L’Oeil”

Hello, my droogies, and get ready for a brand new episode of Duncan and Bo Go to Westworld! We’re behind two episodes, so we double down and cover episode six, “The Adversary,” and episode seven, “Trompe L’Oeil,” two slam-bang episodes with big reveals and even bigger questions.  We get into it all, from confirmations of some of our theories to brand new speculations that twist what we think of the show and “The Maze.”  Also, some listener feedback and what we expect from the remaining episodes.  And Maeve is, undeniably, the best.  Get caught up before the episode eight premiere with your pals, one of whom is certainly not a host.

Thank you for reading my comment on the show!

Before I go into something rather long winded I wanted to point out that the female host Teddy and the Man in Black pick up towards the end of the last episode is the same host who sets up William with his gear at Delos and is in Delores’ flashback to the dawn of the park. Just a little more evidence for the two timelines theory.

Also, the image of the maze looks a lot like an overhead cross section of a human brain with a figure in the centre (http://media.gettyimages.com/illustrations/human-brain-cross-section-frontal-view-illustration-id604230175?s=170667a and http://www.picturesof.net/_images_300/Black_and_White_Human_Brain_Cross_Section_Royalty_Free_Clipart_Picture_081012-211268-229048.jpg for refernce). I’m sure this will fit in I’m sure how.

So, how about a crazy theory? The maze is not a game for the guests of the park to unlock all of the Hosts at once it’s a quest for the hosts created by Arnold to endow his creations with consciousness on a case by case basis. For an extra kicker it might not work all the time or may not work all the time.
Arnold’s hope is that by a Host solving the Maze they will become self-aware. I say hope because he doesn’t know what the final piece of the consciousness pyramid is and is making a high educated guess. (On a side note I just realized as I’m typing that the person Ford showed the pyramid to was Bernard and the top might be complete and only appears to be blank to him because he’s a Host)
I believe that any Host is able to become aware of the Maze and go on this quest for consciousness. According to Ford the only thing of Arnold’s original programming left in the Hosts is the voice prompt system. Meaning the “These dark delight’s…” prompt is in all of the Host’s core code and is capable of triggering any of them to search for the maze. I wonder if somewhere Arnold was laughing when Ford told the Man in Black “Far be it from me to get in the way of a voyage of self-discovery”
Now let’s look at the Hosts that we know of that received the call. Delores is kind of spinning her wheels with William. She might’ve also be getting extra help from Arnold if you believe that the man talking to Delores about Alice in Wonderland and the Maze this is Arnold in the past. He’s seen something in her that makes him think she’s close and is priming her for the prompt and was told accidently. This will lead to the terrible event of 30 years ago, which will lead to Delores being reset and placed on a loop.
Now let’s look at Mauve. She received the prompt and became curious of her surroundings, became aware of what she is and is planning her escape. If she escapes the park she will have solved the Maze and become the legendary figure in the centre who has died countless times and clawed her way back to life. Not to mention the first time the Man in Black saw the Maze Mauve’s previous build is right in the middle of the maze along with her little girl (who may or may not be Lawrence’s daughter also in previous role that was very helpful to the Man in Black in the present).
I’m loving your show and I’m really excited to see the end of the season and get some concrete answers.
